1-13-12: Somoto Canyon and plans for Honduras

Yesterday the four of us took the bus to the town of Somoto for the primo water adventure in Nicaragua - floating, swimming in life jackets, hiking on rocks along the shoreline, jumping from cliffs as high as we dared to go - for 5 hours in Somoto Canyon.  Medium warm water, some very deep spots but mostly shallow - warm weather and quite fun.  I was scared by reports of it being cold but it wasn,t from Oregon standards.

 Very beautiful.  Narrow at points.  Two rivers - one from Honduras and one from Nicaragua - merge to form the rio that runs through Somoto Canyon.

Today is a down day, making calls, connecting with folks in Honduras.  We have 2 couchsurfing connections over the border.  Manana, early in the morning.
