Flight to D. C.
Woke up 3:30 a.m.
Yehudah decided to change to rolling backpack rather than the old standbys we inherited from Raven, Yo's oldest son, & the ones we trusted all the way through Central America 2 years ago and I followed suit. Right now, we are schlepping 2 extra boxes, our day packs & our own gear, so the logistics of having wheels on one of those items made sense. We'll figure out what to do if we have to put them on our backs. TSA airport whisked us into pre-approved line, not sure why, but, imagine, no taking any shoes, clothing or watches off!
Easy flight to Denver, quick flight change to DC plane.
Cool that Gabe Erbs posted a sweet note of support on P'nai Or Commonhouse!
We are staying with Clare Feinson, who Yo stayed with on a previous trip, in DC, and fly to Kigali, Rwanda on Wednesday.
Nervous about DC weather - snowstorm, ice - yikes! Why didn't we just fly straight and not stop here?
Plus this house reeks of 7 cats! And thought that I would have allergy attack while sleeping, but there's a downstairs room with fresh air, so fine. Clare was kind to understand the predicament.
AND my daughter and I face timed - so, although we don't have our IPhones, this mini-IPad is great!
12/10: Day 2
DC - just deleted day 2 and 3 trying to add photos, so, briefly:
Sweet, light snow rather than intense storm as predicted, but, nonetheless, DC closed down, so nothing opened. Walked with umbrellas open in park, spent day at Hellers bakery, wi-fi spot, dinner with Clare - yummy spinach spanakopita - individual round portions with tomatoes and wine, chocolate soy ice cream -
Early to bed for 6 am Super Shuttle pick-up
12/11: Day 3
Super shuttle early
Yo taken into private room for pat down, looked through his stuff. Told he set off chemical alarm, so they looked through his stuff for bomb making materials.
Now waiting to board Egyptian Airlines to Addis Ababa, then to Kigali!
