12/12/11: First Night in San Jose

Our flights went smoothly and we had fun at the Dallas airport looking at artwork ' large tile murals on the ground in the international area.  I read lots about what we will do in San Jose and the Nicoya Peninsula on the flights.  Did a crossword puzzle with the guy sitting next to me.  We were picked up at the airport by a fellow who works at the dentistś office who was great at helping us with our Spanish.  We are now at Casa Ridgway.

Our room is quite small downstairs. Last time we were here we had one of the best rooms upstairs ' the Gandhi room.  This time they are very crowded but perhaps we will move upstairs tomorrow ' although hopefully we will be here only for two days.  It depends on what happens at the dentist tomorrow.  I cannot get the e'mail but Yo just got me on so we are switching.

Rain started coming down this afternoon we were told and it is still coming down. Very nice that we were met at the airport and driven right to the door. The Christmas decorations are quite elaborate along the major streets  and in the parks. Saw a bunch of people standing with umbrellas outside one of the main Catholic churches. Not sure what they were waiting for. We look forward to have most of the day tomorrow to explore museums as well as cafes and restaurants that Joanie has picked out on this side of town. Then Wednesday the dental work happens.

If we get done early enough we plan to mosey on over to the Nicoya Peninsula for some hot, dry weather. Joanieś nephew is spending a month over there and it will be fun to go places with him. Maybe even get to see some sea turtles lay their eggs on the beach. Thatś a long time wish for Joanie.

Hey guys -- I hope you have a wonderful journey. I managed to see the turtles laying eggs on the Nicoya Peninsula a few years ago. Thrilling. If you have a chance, go to Panacea de la Montana, a wonderful little yoga retreat near Tamarindo.
