1/20/14: MBALE: RAIN COMPASSIONATE LISTENING TRAINING

1/20/14: MBALE: RAIN COMPASSIONATE LISTENING TRAINING

We said our good-bys to the three Kulanu visitors after the weekday services, then went off to town for an all day training with RAIN Uganda, a group that provides testing and counseling for AIDS and cervical cancer.  17 people attended.  We covered all 4 lessons plus Joanie tried out a new walking meditation which involved non-verbal exchanges between partners and was out of many people's comfort zones.  What was great was that they shared their discomfort.

These photos were sent to us by Hedy Cohen, the founder of RAIN Uganda, who is from Chicago:

The RAIN CL Training met on the rooftop of the coffee shop and hotel

After a great lunch we walked over to Israel's office, after which he helped us with our agenda: getting bus tickets, Yehudah buying supplies for Tobin Clinic, finishing xeroxing, buying some food, going to Tobin for Yehudah to bring the supplies, set up the signs he created for improving their infection control procedures.  We said hi to Yashaal, who was sitting with her tutor outside Israel's office.

Yashaal and tutor
Susan from Namatumba, Joseph's wife, was there and expressed that she was looking to say good-by to me all day.  She has received her school money and so will be going back to study nursing beginning next week.  Her money doesn't cover supplies, including 50 pair of rubber gloves and surgical gloves. Since Yehudah had just bought the clinic a large box of such gloves we took one of the 100 pair boxes and gave it to Susan.  She was delighted and so we said good-by.

These are photos of Yehudah with the doctor and staff, plus holding up the signs he made to help them with infection control:

Back home there was no power, so, even though the tech guy had brought the modem over to our home because the guest house is closed down since there are no guests we had no juice here.  The rabbi has a generator.  We all ate around the table by candlelight and headlamps, then had a conversation with Israel asking many questions and sharing more of his plans, desire for an American type toilet, to import electrical supplies from England, and his amusement at a couch that folded down into a bed.

Early bedtime.
Tomorrow is our last day here.  Talmud class lesson.  Meeting with Aaron.

I forgot to mention that Moshe and Esther came to visit.  Moshe had written a detailed letter about his desire to go to Hadassah with all the things he will need to buy.  Esther wanted my email address.  She wants to go to a school in Jinja where Aaron's daughter goes to school.

Moshe and I wrote a letter to Isaac.  I forgot to take a photo of Moshe to send to Isaac.  Tomorrow.
Here it is:
